Foreword
PIANO TECHNIQUE in its broader meaning, is related tó the neces-sary skill which is employed in the art of piano playing. In a limited sense, it is used to imply finger, wrist and arm dexterity. However, in this book on piano technique, the fuller meaning of the term has been applied in the construction of the studies. Most of the studies are of a melodic character and are designed to help the student attain control of Tone and Touch as well as aid in the development of Finger, Arm and Wrist.
Each study should be practiced three ways :
1. Attention to correct fingering, notes and rhythm.
2. Attention to marks of legato and staccato.
3. Attention to touch and gradation of tone.
Only by the inclusion of all these factors, will the student develop not only technically but musically as well.
