AFRICA 50 YEARS OF MUSIC COMPILES AN ASTONISHING NUMBER OF CUTS FROM THROUGHOUT THE CONTINENT. It exists as a celebration of the wave of independence that swept the African continent in the second half of the 20th century and showcases its musical diversity. Everything is of high quality, from early North African rai to classical Egyptian music and the rumba of the Congo. The scope of the project is large, but the curators did a masterful job. They keep an ear towards the celebratory feeling of independence rather than the disaffected youth of today. There is something for everyone here, even seasoned collectors will undoubtedly get turned on to something new. Limited edition 5LP box set.
