🏒 NHL-legendat Suomessa – Ninety Nine All Stars hurmasi Helsingin ja Tampereen 1994
Kun Wayne Gretzky toi kokoamansa Ninety Nine All Stars -tähtijoukkueen Eurooppaan NHL:n työsulun aikana kaudella 1994–95, Suomi nousi yhdeksi kiertueen kohokohdista. Helsingin ja Tampereen näytösottelut kokosivat yhteen aikansa kirkkaimmat jääkiekkotähdet ja tuhannet suomalaisfanit – hetki, joka on monille yhä yksi 1990-luvun ikimuistoisimmista urheilukokemuksista.
Kiertueen tarkoituksena oli pitää pelaajat pelikunnossa, kerätä varoja hyväntekeväisyyteen ja edistää jääkiekon näkyvyyttä maailmanlaajuisesti. Samalla se tarjosi harvinaisen mahdollisuuden nähdä useita tulevia Hockey Hall of Fame -legendoja samalla jäällä.
Helsinki – Hartwall Arena täyttyi tähtiloistosta
Helsingin ottelu pelattiin Hartwall Arenassa, joka oli loppuunmyyty. Vastassa oli Suomen jääkiekkomaajoukkuen tähdistöversio, ja ottelu tarjosi yleisölle näyttäviä syöttöjä, nopeita hyökkäyksiä ja runsaasti maaleja.
Gretzky johti joukkuettaan tutulla pelinlukutaidollaan, ja fanit pääsivät näkemään, miksi häntä pidetään laajalti kaikkien aikojen parhaana jääkiekkoilijana. Ottelu sai laajaa mediahuomiota ja vahvisti Suomen asemaa kansainvälisesti arvostettuna kiekkomaana.
Tampere – Hakametsässä sähköinen tunnelma
Tampereen näytösottelu pelattiin perinteikkäässä Hakametsän jäähallissa. Kaupunki tunnetaan vahvasta kiekkokulttuuristaan, ja se näkyi myös katsomossa: tunnelma oli äänekäs ja innostunut alusta loppuun.
Monelle katsojalle Tampereen ottelu oli ainutlaatuinen tilaisuus nähdä NHL-huippuja livenä kotikaupungissa – tapahtuma, josta puhuttiin vielä pitkään sen jälkeen.

🏒 NHL Legends in Finland – Ninety Nine All Stars dazzled Helsinki and Tampere in 1994
When Wayne Gretzky brought his hand-picked Ninety Nine All Stars team to Europe during the 1994–95 NHL lockout, Finland became one of the highlights of the tour. The exhibition games in Helsinki and Tampere gathered the brightest ice hockey stars of the era and thousands of Finnish fans – a moment that remains, for many, one of the most unforgettable sports experiences of the 1990s.
The purpose of the tour was to keep players in game shape, raise money for charity, and promote ice hockey around the world. At the same time, it offered a rare opportunity to see several future Hockey Hall of Fame legends on the ice together.
Helsinki – Hartwall Arena filled with star power
The Helsinki game was played at Hartwall Arena, which was sold out. The opponent was an All-Star version of the Finland men's national ice hockey team, and the game delivered spectacular passes, fast-paced attacks, and plenty of goals.
Gretzky led his team with his trademark hockey intelligence, and fans were able to see firsthand why he is widely regarded as the greatest ice hockey player of all time. The game received extensive media coverage and further strengthened Finland’s reputation as a highly respected hockey nation.
Tampere – electric atmosphere at Hakametsä
The Tampere exhibition game was played at the historic Hakametsän jäähalli. The city is known for its strong hockey culture, and it showed in the stands: the atmosphere was loud and enthusiastic from start to finish.
For many spectators, the Tampere game was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see NHL superstars live in their hometown – an event that was talked about long afterward.
