This antique French 4/4 violin is in very good condition and is being sold because it is no longer in use.
The instrument is over 100 years old and was likely made in the workshops of Mirecourt, France, and not in Paris, as the fake label inside the violin suggests. Unlike many other 19th-century instruments made in factories in Germany or France, or modern replicas, this violin has not been artificially aged and displays natural signs of aging consistent with its history.
The violin belonged to a musician and has been inspected in music stores in Helsinki and the United States.
According to the second label, the instrument was imported to Helsinki by R. E. Westerlund. Helsinki-Helsingfors. It was serviced or repaired in Helsinki. As with most antique violins, the labels inside, containing the names of famous makers, should be considered more as reference information than as absolute proof of origin (internal labels on seripki often use the names of famous makers to inflate prices or deceive, even today). The instrument has a deep, warm, and well-projected sound. The violin is comfortable to play and has no visible open cracks. The violin is made of beautiful, durable, dense, seasoned wood with a distinct grain and is finished with an oil varnish. The pronounced maple grain and massive carved top emphasize the instrument's high quality, its noble character, and aesthetic appeal, and also testify to the careful selection of wood. The instrument has harmonious proportions and is meticulously assembled.
