SynopsisThe Library of Ornament series offers thousands of copyright-free design examples for use as reference or inspiraiton. The typographical ornament par excellence, the vignette was first a simple editorial sign. Its history and evolution go hand-in-hand with those of type and illustrations. Although it was only a simple ornament used by Garamond and other typographers during the Renaissance, the vignette would be used over the centuries more and more as an illustrative element until it became extremely common in publications during the Romantic period.
