The Prussian visor cap for infantry officers from around 1910 represents an important component of the military uniform of the German Empire in its late phase. This elegant headgear embodies not only the military tradition of Prussia but also the social standing of the officer corps in Wilhelmine Germany.
The characteristic high plate form of this visor cap developed in the years after 1900 and reached its most pronounced shape around 1910. The dark blue cloth with red cap band and red piping corresponds precisely to the dress regulations for the Prussian infantry. The coloring was by no means arbitrary: blue had been the traditional arm color of the Prussian army for centuries, while red designated the specific arm color of the infantry. This color combination enabled immediate identification of the branch of service.
