Maria Lähteenmäki is a Docent in Finnish and Scandinavian History at the University of Helsinki. She has previously published a number of award-winning works in Finnish as well as The Peoples of Lapland (2006), a history of 19th-century Lapland in English. Terra Ultima is the first comprehensive work on the history of Finnish Lapland intended for visitors. It is also suitable for readers who are interested in local culture and as a textbook for educational use."
