I wrote a full description below to help answer questions in advance. Google translate can help if necessary!
I have several of this type saw so this one simply won't be used and really deserves to be appreciated by a new owner!
'No expense spared' build of a 242XP G using a very good donor Husqvarna 42 crankcase. All parts upgrades are in accordance with the 1998 model year 242XP spare parts catalogue. No chinese crap parts - OEM/Husqvarna genuine parts throughout, down to the smallest components. It's in perfect functional condition and as you can see, great cosmetic condition. Not a project or something with hidden flaws - It's ready to fuel and put to work. If you happen to be a little older 'professional', you'll know what this saw is without further introduction. If you're not, ask around and you'll hear just how good they are from the guys who have used them.
2,3 kW / 3,1 HP and about 5kg in weight. This chassis and in particular the 242XP versions are legendary for their power to weight ratio, very high build quality and their ability to rev up to 15,500RPM!
Overkill for a cottage saw, yes, but compare it to whatever else this budget will buy and there is simply no comparison. It's built on a magnesium alloy chassis, robust and very long lived in production. The regular service items are still pretty easy to find, but you'll struggle to build one that's as good as this even for twice the price if you have to go buy all the parts today.
The donor crankcase was chosen as it is in excellent condition, as the photos show. The crankshaft main bearing is in perfect condition and the owner of that donor saw was meticulous with maintenance and using good quality oil for the time he had it. It showed as soon as I removed the open port 42 cylinder to inspect it before rebuild.
What's been done? Too much to remember and list, but here's what comes to mind:
Split the 42 crankcase using the correct case splitting tool, not using hammers or anything else that can damage the crankshaft, full inspection of the crankshaft and preparation for rebuild. I have then fitted:
Genuine Mahle closed port 'B' cylinder - glass bead blasted and exhaust port polished, new OEM spec 'A/B' piston, wrist pin, bearing and circlips, new Husqvarna compression ring, new crankshaft bearings (FAG Portugal, OEM - no longer produced, I have new old stock spares here), new genuine parts gaskets everywhere, new seals everywhere, new fuel line, new fuel filter, new oil/fuel caps, new fuel tank, new cylinder cover, new muffler (OEM, now ported), new clutch drum and 7T sprocket, new AV mounts, new choke and throttle linkages, new silicon insulated wiring and switches throughout, new mesh air filter, correct 242XPG generator flywheel (has extra fins compared to old 238SG which some use for the conversion, for example) and the entire heated handle setup has been overhauled and works flawlessly. The front handle has been refinished using chainsaw handle hose, not just some kind of electrical heat shrink insulation - it's perfect in the hand.
The carburettor fitted is the correct type for the late model 242XP's, carefully disassembled and cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner using Oregon fluid, then completely serviced using the full rebuild kit from Husqvarna. Not just gaskets/diaphrams, the full kit was installed. The metering lever is correctly set, carb assembled and then pressure tested. It both looks and functions like new.
The oil pump has been stripped and rebuilt and it's the type that is driven by the clutch, so stops oiling when the saw it at idle. This is a big improvement on the old type pump which flowed oil as soon as the engine was started. Of course the clutch drum is also new, and is the corresponding newer type to drive the later type oil pump worm gear, also new.
The starter has been completely disassembled and cleaned, then serviced with a new recoil spring (genuine parts), cord and handle. I can swap this to a similar condition rebuilt starter with an age appropriate 242XPG decal, just ask! No change in price, you decide which you want to take. See the last photo and take your pick.
The chain brake / clutch cover is in excellent condition, no damage, no signs of ever having thrown a chain, same as the crankcase. Stripped and rebuilt, then fitted with a new brake band, later spec handle and pivot bushes etc. Inertia brake has been tested and works as it should. The chain guides are new, as is the chain catcher - another part which is not available anywhere but for which I have many new old stock spares in my parts bin.
This saw is built essentially 'factory fresh' mechanical condition. All fasteners are correct. No threads are stripped/repaired - it's all correctly assembled and torqued using high end workshop equipment. The saw has been pressure and vacuum tested using the correct workshop equipment (Mityvac pump and model specific adapter plates etc) and workshop manual procedures, then 'run in' using Aspen 2T fuel with Husqvarna XP fully synthetic oil mixed 40:1. The carb tune has been correctly adjusted and verified both 'in the wood' and then using a DTI-20K tach.
The included blue cover is the winter air intake cover for the airbox pre-filter. It's in new condition and not available any longer. The guide bar is a new Lightweight 33cm / 13" 1.5mm replaceable sprocket nose bar from Sugihara (Japan) and the chain is a new Husqvarna S35 semi-chisel chain, made in Sweden. The guide bar cover is genuine Husqvarna, also new. The bar, chain and cover alone would cost about €120 if you were going to buy those today.
If you've been looking at the 242XP and 242XPG models, you probably know what they cost in good 'from the woods' condition. Those are good options for many, especially if you like to DIY your maintenance and repairs, but can always have worn parts that can sometimes be slow or costly to source. Some parts which might last the intended life of a saw, but may be well worn now considering the age of these saws might simply be no longer available. I've stockpiled such parts over 10 years ago to ensure I can keep servicing my own 'user saws'. I've used many of these spares to complete this rebuild and a few others during the past couple of winters.
If you think it's suspiciously cheap, you're half right. It's cheap, but not suspiciously so when you understand my philosophy. I rebuild saws and other machines for enjoyment during the dark winter months. It's a hobby and doesn't have to make profits or even fully pay for itself. I like a simple sale where both of us are happy with the outcome and it doesn't leave a bitter taste. That said, the price is firm.
I'd prefer to deal face to face, but I can also deliver in person around the capital area to a person you trust to forward to you, or of course I can pack it up really carefully and send to you via Matkahuolto.
Packaging and delivery costs in that case are €25 for the large package and some new boxes so I can 'double pack' it for safe transportation. If you check my feedback here on Tori you will see I'm a long-term identified user here and have 10/10 feedback. You can deal with confidence.
Drop me a message with your mobile phone number and I'll send you a video of the saw running.
Payment via cash, MobilePay or bank transfer are all fine. I will be pleased to write a receipt for your records, but I'm a private seller so there is no ALV / VAT included.
I'll remove the advert once the saw is sold, so if it's still listed, it's still available.
If you have any questions, please ask.
