"Jessica Rylan and Chris Corsano, well I couldn't have come up with a better pairing myself... I have to admit when I first heard that this album was due I was giddy with excitement. New England's Queen of fractured noise teaming up with one of the world's most jaw droppingly exciting percussionists? For someone like me this was a dream come true, and I'm more than happy to report that 'Key Cutter' is nothing short of noisy, percussive perfection. Those of you who have managed to track down Rylan's recordings before (either under her own name or under the 'Can't' moniker) will know just how essential her work is, her homemade circuit bent creations crackling and buzzing while she sings or clatters atop... it's almost impossible to describe her sound but she manages to be totally unique in a genre plagued by over-referential copyists. Chris Corsano probably needs even less introduction having played with some of the most important avant garde musicians of our day, his frenetic drumming has set him up high in a very short time and here he is seen with guitarist Bill Nace who performs with him under the Vampire Belt moniker. That aside, you can probably guess how the record sounds - Rylan's signature buzzes and squelching is audible from the off and is perfectly matched against Corsano's measured aggression as he pummels a number of shades of you-know-what out of his tortured kit. I find it hard to put into words how much I've been dying for a collaboration of this kind, it sounds like Lightning Bolt ditching their guitars and using a broken modular synth or Keiji Haino initiating a collaboration with Pierre Boulez. Utterly unsurpassable noise/experimental/free-rock/avant call it what you want, it's frighteningly powerful and without any shadow of a doubt one of the finest noisey records of the year. So, so huge - buy." -Boomkat
"This 2005 recording collaboration of Vampire Belt, the long running Western Massachusetts duo of Chris Corsano (frequent YOD associate and collaborator with Jandek, John Olson, and Paul Flaherty) and Bill Nace (X.0.4.). Vampire Belt specializes in all over the kit percussion on deeply audio effected guitar histrionics. Can’t is Jessica Rylan’s long standing vocal/electronic project. Her sound is self described as ‘friendly, intimate and creepy like anonymous postcards sent to you by a rain soaked prisoner.’ And I am in no mood to argue… its got moments of beautiful song and scary blurt. The collaboration sound, you ask? Very much the collision of these two entities: the soundz of Rylan’s homemade electronics butting up against Nace’s splayed guitar, all the while punctuated by the free jazz drum rambo of Corsano. The record has several burners, and plenty of moments of parking lot moan and search. Really, a record like this has not come out since ESP-Disk released that last awful Godz record. FACT!”
