WHOSE WHO?
A Who Retrospective Brian Ashley and Steve Monnery
Who are they?
For fifteen years they blazed their way across the pop world, wrecking hotel rooms, smashing instruments on stage, almost coming to blows in the middle of performances. They were the mod band, the high priests of rock'n roll outrage and, with Tommy, the first band to gain widespread recognition as artists. They have mixed drugs, drink, violence and religion - and come up with a message of love. They have hit headlines and each other.
They often stood on the verge of becoming an institution, only to be plucked from that fate by their beliet in rock'n roll. They are The Who.
But with the tragic death of Keith Moon - the most outrageous of them all - has a chapter in musical history come to an end? Brian Ashley and Steve Monnery, both experienced journalists, tell the story of The Who, their audiences, their antics, their breakthroughs and their unique contribution to rock music. With pictures of the band at key stages in their career, a chronology and discography.
