The Wrecker's Lantern is the debut and sole full-length studio album by the Nottingham-based indie/psychedelic folk-rock band Saint Joan. Released in mid-2007 through the independent label Camera Obscura Records, the record is heavily thematic, using vivid metaphors of the sea, maritime journeys, and coastal folklore to explore the dark and emotionally draining complexities of human relationships.
The album's title refers to "wrecking"—the historical, deceitful practice of using a false lantern to lure ships onto treacherous rocks for the purpose of looting their cargo. Contemporary reviews, such as those from Terrascope Online and Stylus Magazine, highlight how the band uses this concept as an allegory for toxic relationships where individuals emotionally exploit their partners before leaving them abandoned like shipwrecked hulls.
