This work arranges fragments of snow white mother-of-pearl into a measured grid, where flat and softly convex surfaces gather and fold light. The surface shifts gently as the viewer moves, revealing a slow, tidal shimmer held within strict geometry. The mother of pearl used here is selected for its clarity and uncommon whiteness, then hand-polished to reveal its natural inner light. Within this surface, glass tesserae containing 24K white gold leaf fused between layers of glass appear as concentrated points of luminosity.
The mother-of-pearl is upcycled, reclaimed rather than newly harvested. In a time when material consumption accelerates, working with what already exists becomes an intentional act, affirming continuity, care, and the quiet possibility of transformation without waste.
The artwork is handcrafted by Gyula Takács. The piece is ready to hang, hand-signed, and numbered on the back, featuring the Pilari Helsinki authenticity stamp in archival ink. A Certificate of Authenticity, personally signed by the artist.

Gyula Takács (b. 1990) is a Hungarian architect and designer living and working in Helsinki since 2016. His work is influenced by the city’s serene landscapes and rich design culture, emphasizing innovation, sustainable design, and a strong connection with nature.
His creative philosophy, summarized by his motto “sculpting the essence of change,” underpins all of his projects, spanning sculptures, fine art prints, paintings, and photography. His approach is minimalist, focusing on meticulous detail and compositions that convey moments of quiet transformation. Takács emphasizes simplicity as a means to evoke emotion and communicate meaningful narratives. His work explores harmony within asymmetry and the use of negative space, aiming to capture balance and stillness in each piece.
