Offered for sale here is a framed original Rolex Watch magazine advertisement from 1993.
The text on the print reads:
In the Arctic, Janusz Kurbiel’s Rolex does more than tell him the time.
Every year for over ten years, Janusz Kurbiel has experienced hell. For the unimaginable cold of the Arctic is hell in reverse.
That’s why, since 1975, Kurbiel’s expeditions have been to establish how scientists and technicians will one day be able to utilise the natural resources of this vast fortress of ice.
Janusz Kurbiel is a scientific explorer. In the very worst conditions he tests electronic apparatus, rescue and surveillance systems, survival equipment and… his Rolex.
But science often gives way to adventures in which he must surpass himself, risking everything to get out of trouble. Kurbiel smiles as he recalls setting out by skidoo to look for magnetic north. When the magnetic field had rendered his sophisticated navigational equipment useless, he simply navigated by his Rolex.
Again, after capsizing near Greenland and losing all his instruments, he got back to France by taking a bearing on the dial of his Rolex.
Today Janusz Kurbiel is planning new expeditions. They will take him in the tracks of Eric the Red, who discovered Greenland in 982; in the footsteps of Amundsen, who opened up the North-West Passage.
As usual, he will wear a Rolex. “Because in the Arctic,” he says, “a watch is the basic equipment of survival.” But it also allows him to record precisely when the first seal appears, to rendezvous with his colleagues and to remember at dead of night that, on the banks of the Seine, it is seven in the evening.

The print measures approximately 16.5cm x 25.5cm (6.5" x 9.75").
The original advertisement sits centered on an A4 sheet of black Canson Iris Vival 185gsm card stock.

This print is over 30 years old, so there will be signs of age. Some discoloration is commonplace and often there are small tears and signs of wear — little badges of authenticity.

The brand-new A4 frame measures 22.7cm x 31.7cm x 1.0cm.
The print sits centered on an A4 sheet of Canson Iris Vival 185gsm card stock and is held in place using a single Goldbuch acid-free adhesive.
Can be posted (Toridiili) or collected from either Punavuori or Jätkäsaari, whatever suits best.
