Offered for sale here is a framed original Vintage Rolex magazine advertisement from 1993.
To prevent glare, the photograph was taken without the frame's perspex front cover. Consequently, the advertisement may appear slightly raised or uneven against the backing sheet in the image.
The text on the print reads:
George Bass’s Rolex travels back 33 centuries.
Some time around 1300 BC, a Bronze Age trading vessel sank off the Turkish coast at Ulu Burun.
Today it lies 150 feet below the surface of the Mediterranean, its timbers and cargo protected from marine worms by mud and sand.
Professor George F. Bass, marine archaeologist, has been diving for wrecks for thirty years. In this time, he has excavated five important ships. But none is more fascinating than this trader the oldest known wreck in the world.
Professor Bass points out the irony. The sea, apparently so destructive, is the very element that has saved this and other ancient cargoes from the real destroyer Man.
Now the 3,300 year old cargo is shedding light on trading patterns established seven centuries before carriages was invented. The implications for historians, geographers and other scholars are immense.
As the divers probed ever deeper into the wreck, new discoveries were made at every layer. "Each successive discovery is a tiny window to the past," says Bass.
"If you have enough of these windows, the picture of antiquity that the ship reveals is extraordinary."
Bass has been called the father of marine archaeology. He developed many of the technical techniques that make this form of research possible.
To see depths, Bass restricts himself and his divers to a maximum of twenty minutes at a time working on the wreck. Accordingly, the times every dive he makes with his Rolex Submariner.
Depths of 150 feet are unlikely to trouble a watch which is perfectly at home 1,000 feet below the surface. The massively strong Oyster case, crystal and winding crown combine to produce a virtually indestructible shell.
Which is fortunate, because the movement within has taken over a year from machining to very first part to final assembly.
When George Bass dives back through time to recover artifacts from the past, it is a source of tremendous satisfaction to us that he takes with him a supreme example of present day craftsmanship a Rolex Submariner.

The Rolex Submariner Date Chronometer in steel and 18 kt gold. Also available in 18 kt yellow gold or in stainless steel.
This print is more than 30 years old, so there will be signs of age. Some discoloration is commonplace and often there are small tears and signs of wear — little badges of authenticity.
There will be images and/or text on the back-side of your print. In some cases this may be slightly discernible through your print.
The brand-new A4 frame measures 22.7cm x 31.7cm x 1.0cm.
The print sits centered on an A4 sheet of Canson Iris Vival 185gsm card stock and is held in place using a single Goldbuch acid-free adhesive.
