Offered for sale here is a framed original Vintage Rolex GMT-Master Watch magazine advertisement from 1989.
To prevent glare, the photograph was taken without the frame's perspex front cover. Consequently, the advertisement may appear slightly raised or uneven against the backing sheet in the image.
The text on the print reads:
A THOUSAND MILES ON FOOT
To the North Pole by dogsled, sextant and Rolex Chronometer.
The Steger International Polar Expedition, a team of seven men and one woman, set out on March 8th, 1986, from Ward Hunt Island, the northernmost tip of North America.
Their aim was to reach the North Pole by foot and dogsled without any outside help. The distance they were to cross was around 1,000 miles. Success would have to depend on the strength and stamina of the animals and the conditioning and experience of the people. And on the accuracy of the Rolex chronometer worn by the navigator, Paul Schurke. He relied entirely on his sextant and his Rolex to plot their position at regular intervals.
At times, temperatures were 70°F below zero. They had 60mph winds to contend with.
They encountered ice ridges 40 feet high and sudden open patches of freezing water.
They lived on a high fat diet of 7,000 calories a day, nearly three times the intake for a normal adult.
It featured butter, peanut butter, cheese, noodles and oatmeal.
On May 1st the team reached the Pole, with only 10lbs of food left between them. Only then did they radio to summon aircraft to pick them up.
Will Steger and Paul Schurke know better than most what endurance is demanded of equipment in the polar wastes. The choice of Rolex was proved correct by its precise performance.
Their arrival point, checked by satellite was 89° 59.9'. Just 100 yards from the North Pole.

This print is more than 30 years old, so there will be signs of age. Some discoloration is commonplace and often there are small tears and signs of wear — little badges of authenticity.
There will be images and/or text on the back-side of your print. In some cases this may be slightly discernible through your print.
The brand-new A4 frame measures 22.7cm x 31.7cm x 1.0cm.
The print sits centered on an A4 sheet of Canson Iris Vival 185gsm card stock and is held in place using a single Goldbuch acid-free adhesive.
