The AMX NXT-CV7 is a 7-inch tabletop active-matrix TFT color touch panel designed for professional audiovisual control, automation, and high-end residential or commercial environments. Manufactured by AMX (a brand under Harman Professional Solutions), the NXT-CV7 touch panels serve as a primary user interface for controlling integrated systems, including lighting, climate, security, and distributed audio/video systems.
The NXT-CV7 is engineered with a widescreen aspect ratio and a compact physical footprint, making it ideal for boardrooms, lecture halls, and high-end home automation setups where desk or tabletop space is limited.
- Display and Screen Resolution: The device features a 7-inch active-matrix TFT LCD display with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. It delivers a native resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA) and supports up to 262,144 colors (18-bit color depth). The screen is treated with an anti-glare overlay to maintain visibility under harsh overhead lighting.
- Physical Dimensions and Ergonomics: The physical design features an adjustable tilt mechanism. Fully raised, the unit measures 7 inches (h) x 8 inches (w) x 7 inches (d), and it can be lowered to a profile of 4 inches.[2] The total weight of the tabletop unit is 5 lbs.
- Memory and Storage: The internal architecture of the NXT-CV7 includes 64 MB of SDRAM and a minimum of 512 MB of CompactFlash memory for storing user interface pages, graphics, and system configurations.
- Sensors: To optimize power consumption and user interaction, the panel is equipped with an integrated Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensor for automatic wake-up when a user approaches, as well as a light sensor for automatic backlight brightness adjustment.
- Multimedia and Connectivity: Unlike basic control interfaces, the NXT-CV7 is built to handle rich multimedia feedback directly at the table.
- Video Support: The panel supports full-motion video, including Composite Video and S-Video inputs. These analog video signals are routed to the touch panel via an external NXA-AVB/Ethernet Breakout Box, allowing users to preview security cameras, television feeds, or presentation sources directly on the screen.
- Audio Capabilities: The NXT-CV7 features two built-in speakers and an integrated microphone. It supports analog stereo audio distribution and is capable of local playback of MP3 and WAV audio files for custom button press sounds, system alerts, or voice prompts.
- Network Connectivity: System communication is handled via a wired 10/100 Ethernet port, which connects the panel to the central AMX NetLinx control processor.
- Firmware Updates and System Maintenance: Over its lifecycle, AMX released critical firmware updates to improve the stability, accuracy, and storage capabilities of the NXT-CV7 and its wall-mounted counterpart, the NXD-CV7.
- Storage Expansion: Firmware version 2.86.29 added boot-level support for large Compact Flash cards (2 GB or greater), allowing integrators to load larger graphics files, complex user interfaces, and extensive audio assets.
- Touch Calibration: The same release introduced a new touch calibration algorithm designed to correct nonlinear errors in the touch overlays.[3] By adding more calibration points, this update significantly improved touch accuracy across the 7-inch screen.
- System Stability Hotfixes: Subsequent hotfixes (such as firmware v.2.86.40) addressed critical network and hardware vulnerabilities. These included fixing a bug where the panel could drop offline or reboot unexpectedly due to a watchdog monitoring system error, and resolving an Ethernet driver crash issue in high-traffic network environments.
